Immersion Information

You may be asking is Immersion something new? The answer to that question, is no.

Immersion in water has been taking place for thousands of years. In Hebrew tradition it has another name, which is Mikvah. It is a pool of natural water in which one bathes for the restoration of ritual purity. Immersion in the mikvah can be understood as a symbolic act of denying self.

The Mikvah was often performed many times in a person’s life. Such as times of Ritual Cleansing, a Major Life Change, Entering Discipleship, Repentance, Before entering the Temple and more.

In Leviticus 14:8-9, the leper who was healed of leprosy also had to go through Mikvah in order to be fully cleansed.

In Exodus 29:4, 30:20-21, 40:12, and 40:31-32, before entering the temple Moses, Aaron and his sons had to go through Mikvah for cleansing.

John the Baptist was performing Mikvahs as he called people to come and repent and turn from their sins. When Jesus came to him, he was in no need of repentance for he knew no sin. However Jesus knew that a major change was about to take place in his life. He no longer would be called Jesus the Carpenter, and he insists that John witness his immersion. From that day forward Jesus begins to call his disciples and begins to teach what God the Father would speak to him.

From the beginning of time, water has played a huge part in the Bible and in the lives of man. In Genesis 1:2, it was the Spirit of God that moved upon the face of the waters.

In 2 Kings 5… Elisha the prophet of God tells Naaman, a man who has leprosy to go and wash in the Jordan 7 times. In verse 14, as he comes up out of the water on the 7th time he is healed!

John 5:4…For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

Over four years ago, during a time of prayer, Pastor Todd Smith had a vision of flames on top of the baptistery waters at Christ Fellowship Church in Dawsonville, GA. When he asked God what it meant, the Lord told him that when people got into the water, He was going to baptize them not only with water, but with fire. Since this time countless miracles, deliverances, salvations and much more has taken place.

Just like in Dawsonville, God has been moving in the waters here at Irmo. We have seen people healed, delivered, joy and peace restored, saved, given the gift of tongues and more.

Come and see what God is doing! We are praying and fasting for you!
